May 14-21, 2016 - Kalamazoo Bike Week is all about celebrating cycling.  It promotes cycling advocacy, awareness, education and most importantly, fun!

We are in the planning stages for Bike Week 2016.  Numerous events are taking shape.  If you are interested in helping out this year or sponsoring/organizing an event, please contact Bike Week Chair David Warwick at dwarwick@envirologic.com

PEDAL's Ladies Mountain Bike Skills Clinic

Just outside the bounds of Bike Week proper, brings our Ladies MTB Skills Clinic. This will occur at 2:00 at the Ft. Custer trailhead and will last a couple of hours or so. We’ll work on things like cornering, going over obstacles, position on the bike, going up and down hills. Lotsa fun for all skill levels.

Signup can be performed on the phone (269-324-5555) or in person at the Romence Road shop. Alas, day of signup is not available.

Join beer and bicycle fans in a 14-mile round trip ride from Bell’s Brewery in Kalamazoo to Bell’s Production Facility in Galesburg/Comstock.  Donations made by participants will go to support the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail.  A $10.00 donation per cyclist is suggested. Registration starts at Noon, ride begins at 1:00.

Ride with the Kalamazoo Bicycle Club.  Be sure to wear brightly colored clothing and use both front and rear lights in order to enable auto drivers to see you, especially so if you anticipate riding in the dusk or after dark.

Also, come prepared to fix your own mechanical issues and flat tires. Other riders may not be able to stop and help out if you break down on the road. Carry a phone to use in emergencies.

Join Mayors Peter Strazdas of Portage and Bobby Hopewell of Kalamazoo on a 7.5 mile bike ride as they ride in Portage, into Kalamazoo and then back to Portage. Meet at Portage Creek Bicentennial Park Trail on Milham Road. Arrive by 8:30 to register for this free ride. The ride starts promptly at 9:00.

Our first Tuesday Group Ride of the season is tomorrow night, and because it's also Kalamazoo Bike Week we are doing something a little bit different. We are partnering with Arcadia Ales for the next two weeks to help them celebrate Bike Week, and the launch of their new Cheap Date beer.The Alfred E. Bike Tuesday group ride departs from the shop (320 E. Michigan Avenue, downtown Kalamazoo) each week at 6:15pm during the warmer months.
There are 20 and 26 mile routes with group speeds ranging from a 15-16mph "no drop" ride, to a 20+ mph fast ride.
